The SMP Strategic Mail Performance Awards

As an SMP member you are eligible to enter this new awards scheme, the winner of which will be announced at the SMP Summit on September 30th.

 

Unlike other awards, we are not looking for clever creative or big ideas on data per se, what we want is what YOU, the mail producers, did that made the difference to a client’s mailing or campaign.

 

The awards are open to all SMP mail producers, irrespective of size of business and can be entered for any client – from the local farm shop to a FSTE top 100 company.

 

You can enter a campaign that was B2B or B2C and the size and volume of the campaign isn’t important. Additionally, whether the item was a business mail, advertising mail, door drop or partially addressed mailing, is irrelevant.

 

Only MAIL performance that you can PROVE matters, irrespective of the size of the business.

 

Size and volume are not important, only evidenced performance is.

This year’s winners will be announced at our annual Summit at The Phoenix Centre, London on Thursday 30 September.

Qualifying examples may be where you have:

    • Helped a client save money or improve performance by changing a pack design and format;
    • Helped a client save money by optimising postage charges;
    • Helped a client get a better ROI by enhancing areas such as the use of data or targeting;
    • Or anything else that improved mail performance for the client.

Show an improvement in results and you could be a winner!

Award entries can be up to 500 for a description of the mailing or campaign plus up to four visuals. Entrants have a further 200 words to describe results, including proof of performance.

Edwina Dunn OBE

Edwina is one of the most successful leaders in the data industry, with a career of delivering transformational business change.

 

As co-founder of global insights business Dunnhumby, Edwina and business partner Clive Humby revolutionised the world of retail and consumer goods when the company pioneered the Tesco Clubcard and other global loyalty programmes.

 

Edwina is a former Chair of Starcount, where she helped forge a new era of consumer insight and technology.

 

She is the founder and Chair of the Female Lead, and educational foundation celebrating the achievements and diversity of women who shape the world; using data to understand the challenges women face, working with business and government to help create new models and policies for the workplace, all driven by a social platform with five million followers.

 

In 2019, Edwina received an OBE for her services to data and business in the UK.

Mike Colling

Mike Colling founded The Kite Factory (formerly MC&C) in 2001 and was CEO for 17 years. He now leads The Kite Factory consulting team, helping clients create new growth in direct-to-consumer continuity revenue businesses.

 

His career in the media industry spans four decades and he has used his entrepreneurial expertise to set up and run successful advertising, direct marketing, media and digital agencies.

 

Mike was one of the pioneers of direct response media in the UK; is a board member of JICMail and a fellow of the IDM. He is passionate about the effectiveness of media investments and is the author of three award winning IPA effectiveness papers.

 

Graduating with a MA in Zoology many years ago, Mike maintains his interest in wildlife at a home in the Cairngorm national park.

John Watson

John Watson was founder of what was the UK’s biggest DM agency – now Rapp – and is now Chairman and CEO of integrated agency WPNC. Primarily a copywriter, he has 50 years of experience in direct marketing, most of it in direct mail. He has created packs for insurance companies, banks, charities, the Government, political parties, mail order businesses, health providers, precious metal providers, travel companies and many more.

Philip Ricketts

Philip Ricketts is the commercial director of Royal Mail Wholesale and has more than 20 years’ experience working in a broad range of sales, strategic marketing and product management positions, joining RM Wholesale in April 2019.

 

Phil has held a number of roles in innovation, strategy and product development across the Royal Mail Group. Over the last 10 years, Phil and his team have worked with thousands of end brands, agencies and co-suppliers to help brands develop, integrate and deliver effective mail campaigns. He is a regular on industry award judging panels and is a Fellow of the CIM as well as a board director for organisations such as JIC Mail, Code of Advertising Practice (CAP), Direct Commerce Association (DCA) and the IPA Advisory Board.

Judith Donovan CBE, BA Hon D (Leeds Met) Hon DL (Hull) CCMI FRSA FIoD FCIM FCAM FIDM

Judith Donovan CBE was one of the first female entrepreneurs in Yorkshire, founding her own marketing agency in 1982, which she grew to over 50 staff and a turnover of £12.5 million, before selling to her managers in 2000.

 

Since then, she has pursued a Non-Executive and Trustee career. Some of her current roles include: Trustee of the Science Museum Group and Chair of the Advisory Board National Science and Media Museum; Trustee National Army Museum and Chair National Army Museum Trading Ltd; Chair of Ripon Cathedral Council, Keep Me Posted and Royal Mail’s Strategic Mailing Partnership. In addition, she is a Member PAF (Postcode Address File) Advisory Board, recent appointments include becoming a Trustee of the Woolmen charity and member of the Veterans and Pensions committee for Yorkshire and the Humber.

 

Previously she has been, among others, Chair of the Eden Project Ltd, Chair of Royal Mail’s Letters Advisory Board, Chair of the Yorkshire Tourist Board, President of Bradford Chamber of Commerce, a Millennium Commissioner, a Director of HSE, the BIG Lottery Fund and a DEFRA appointed member on the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.
